When to Use the Definite Article with the Days of the Week in French

When you say the name of a day of the week, it is usually in one of three different contexts:

  • You're talking about a specific day (this Monday). In this case, do not use the definite article.

  • You're giving the full date (Monday, September 25). With full dates, it is common to use the definite article, although you may see dates without it.
